Littoral Rainforest and Themeda Grassland Restoration at Broken Head 2007-2010

The project employed professional bush regenerators to restore and rehabilitate significant high profile areas of littoral rainforest and themeda grassland on sea cliffs and coastal headlands (both listed as Endangered Ecological Communities - EECs) in Broken Head Nature Reserve. The project was being undertaken in partnership with the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW) and the Arakwal Aboriginal community.

Huonbrook Bush Regeneration to Enhance Wildlife Corridors and Biodiversity 2009-12

EnviTE Environment is working over three years on private land to restore & rehabilitate High Conservation Value (HCV) sub-tropical rainforest that links Nightcap and Goonengerry National Parks. The two properties involved are located within a narrow gorge between the two parks & provides an important wildlife corridor. The properties are home to 27 threatened species with a further 60 known to occur in a 5km radius of the site. Weed control is critical to maintain and improve the condition of vegetation and protect native flora and fauna species and habitats. Weed species, particularly lantana and smooth senna are restricting natural regeneration and growth of native species on sections of the property. Byron Shire Council & the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW) are supporting the project.

Restoration of Jali Heath and Wetland at Seven Mile Beach with Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council 2009-12

The Jali people, are undertaking training in Land Conservation & Management (CLM2/3) in order to develop skills to manage their land now and in the future. The project involves a partnership between the Jali people and EnviTE professional bush regenerators and trainers. Bush regeneration works are being implemented in line with the Jali Land - Lennox Heath Vegetation Plan produced by EnviTE in August 2007.

Targeted Rivers Program, Upper Tweed 2006-11

River health and riparian ecosystems have been enhanced through fencing, strategic bush regeneration works and tree planting in the Upper Tweed catchment. The project supports private landholders to restore native vegetation communities along creeks. EnviTE Environment and Bushland Restoration Services deliver the project in consultation with Tweed Shire Council and the Upper Tweed Community Reference Committee.

Strategic Environmental Weeds - Big Scrub 2006-09

Invasive environmental weed species are the greatest threat to Big Scrub remnants of lowland subtropical rainforest. This project funded employment of professional bush regenerators to strategically control weeds in partnership with landholders. Big Scrub consortium partners include the Big Scrub Rainforest Landcare Group, EnviTE, Rous Water, Ballina Shire Council, Byron Shire Council and the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC).

Evans River catchment to coast corridors project 2009-12

This project aims to maintain and improve terrestrial, riparian and aquatic environments in the Evans River area. EnviTE Environment will work with the community and land managers to implement restoration activities over three years. The project will develop site action plans and undertake on-ground restoration works (fencing, off-stream water, weed control, revegetation and structural works as required) to restore and enhance wildlife habitat and corridors). Restoration sites will be selected at priority sites as identified in the Evans River Estuary Management Plan and the Oxleyan Pigmy Perch Recovery Plan.

Jali Green Team 2009-2011

The project supports the Jali Green Team of Aboriginal bush regenerators. Project funding supplements the existing Environmental Trust funding for the restoration of the Jali Seven Mile heath and wetland. The project site covers 290 Hectares of HCV Heath and Wetland and includes SEPP14 Wetland and Swamp sclerophyll forest on coastal floodplains EEC. Jali members are undertaking accredited Conservation and Land Management (CLM) Certificate II training with EnviTE.

New Brighton Coastal Restoration and Bushland Friendly Neighbourhood Guide (Community Coastcare) 2009-10

At New Brighton dunes are degraded by environmental weeds and garden escapees. There are limited dunes able to act as a barrier between the ocean and the esplanade leaving the road and some private property subject to the threat of future erosion. This project has focused on community education and control of environmental weeds over the site's 3.2 ha area and also provided for follow-up Bitou Bush control.

Byron Shire Community Dunecare Restoration Plans - North Seven Mile Beach, Suffolk Park, Main Beach Byron Bay, Belongil, Cavanbah, Brunswick Heads, New Brighton and South Golden Beach (Community Coastcare) 2009-10

Updated restoration plans are being developed to guide Dunecare groups and council staff working on coastal areas at North Seven Mile Beach, Suffolk Park, Main Beach Byron Bay, Belongil, Cavanbah, Brunswick Heads, New Brighton and South Golden Beach. Vegetation restoration works aim to strategically replace weed species with local native species. Works are to be implemented in such a way to contribute to protecting dunes from erosion and providing a suitable habitat for local and migratory native fauna.

Lowland Rainforest in the NSW North Coast Bioregion including the Clarence, Richmond, Brunswick and Tweed regions - proponent Big Scrub Rainforest Landcare Group (Open Grants Project) 2008-09

EnviTE Environment managed this project - the largest on-ground lowland rainforest rehabilitation project ever undertaken in Australia - which was supported by the Big Scrub Rainforest Landcare Group (BSRLG). The project continued a long-standing successful working relationship between BSRLG and EnviTE targeting the restoration of Big Scrub remnants over many years.

The project focused on 80 sites, covering about 380 hectares across Tweed, Bryon, Ballina and Lismore shires. Just over half the sites are within the Big Scrub and nearby Richmond Catchment. The remainder are within Tweed, Brunswick and Clarence catchments. The project includes eight nature reserves and 17 local government sites.

A broard partnership of regional stakeholders was involved, including: DECCW, local councils, Rous Water and four local Landcare groups (Richmond, Tweed, Brunswick and Tuckombil).

The project aimed to restore and maintain the health of the lowland rainforest remnants, including the Big Scrub, through weed control and monitoring. The Big Scrub was Australia's largest lowland subtropical rainforest area andcovered 75,000 hectares between Lismore, Byron Bay and Ballina. Only 1% remains but these remnants support a high diversity of rare and endangered plants and animals, and are of national and international conservation significance.
