ChemCert Training

EnviTE is a registered training organisation that specialises in training that relates to bush regeneration and environmental practices.
We are registered to deliver competencies (units) from the Conservation and Land Management Training package and ChemCert. This training can be undertaken as a single competency or as an entire certificate, at levels one, two or three.
ChemCert training gains credit for up to four units of any certificate from the Conservation and Land Management training packages.
Why do You Need to be Certified to Work With Chemicals?

From 1 September 2003 new rules under the Pesticides Act 1999 were introduced that make training compulsory for commercial users of pesticides.
Pesticides can be dangerous if incorrectly applied or managed, especially to those people who work with pesticides or are regularly exposed to them. Training in their correct use will minimise mistakes being made when using pesticides. It is one of the most effective ways to protect workers who use pesticides regularly, their families, the community, trade and the environment.
What Does The Law Say?
- People who use pesticides in their business or as part of their job must be trained in how to use those pesticides.
- You must not employ or engage a person to use pesticides unless that person is trained.
- A person who is 'trained' has a qualification that shows that they have achieved a specific level of competency in pesticide use.
- Someone who has already done Farmcare, ChemCert or SMARTtrain training is already qualified. This qualification remains valid for five years from the date it was completed.
- People who do not have the required qualification have to get trained or have their current skills recognised.
- People who are qualified have to be re-assessed every five years.
What Does it Mean For You?

You must be trained if you use pesticides as part of your job or business. For example, if you apply pesticides:
- as a landlord or on behalf of a landlord
- as part of aquaculture and forestry operations
- to a golf course, sporting field or bowling green
- for a local council, government agency or statutory authority
- as part of any commercial agricultural and farming operation, including broadacre farming, horticulture, livestock, market gardening, flower growing, plant nurseries or activities such as fumigating silos or laying baits
- as part of a business, (e.g. a marina, landscape gardening or wood preservation).
Will I Need to be Retrained in The Future?

Every five years you will need to demonstrate that you understand how to use pesticides correctly as part of your job. This involves a one day refresher course, with updated manual and notes.
What Are an Employer's Responsibilities?
From 1 September 2005, you must not employ or engage a person to use pesticides unless that person is correctly trained.
What if I Have Already Done Some Training?

If you already have:
- a certificate under the Farmcare Australia Farm Chemical User Training program, ChemCert Farm Chemical User Training program, or
- a Statement of Attainment under the SMARTtrain Chemical Safety course, SMARTtrain Chemical Application course, SMARTtrain Managing Chemical Use course or the SMARTtrain Chemical Risk Management course, you do not need to be trained again until five years after that certificate or statement was issued.
(Your licence expiry date shows on the plastic card you were issued.)
What do I Get with my ChemCert Training From EnviTE NSW?

The full course (two days) includes:
- The Australian Qualifications Framework Level 3 manual
- The Level 3 workbook
- Printed notes on how to handle, store and transport chemicals safely and correctly as well as information on dilution and application of chemicals
- Morning and afternoon tea
- Statement of Attainment of your accredited training ChemCert licence and follow up support
The one day refresher course provides participants with an updated manual, workbook, notes and certification.
EnviTE NSW is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and offers the training package (at various certificate levels) in Conservation and Land Management.
ChemCert training comprises some of the units from levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Conservation and Land Management Training Package.
A Statement of Attainment is evidence that a participant has demonstrated competencies in the units named on the statement. (It's like part of a full certificate.) For anyone contemplating further study towards a formal qualification in Conservation and Land Management, Horticulture, Agriculture or Resource Management, the units count as credit towards that particular course. The four units are:
| RTC1701A |
Follow Basic Chemical Safety Rules |
| RTC2706A |
Apply Chemicals Under Supervision |
| RTC3704A |
Prepare and Apply Chemicals |
| RTC3705A |
Transport, Handle and Store Chemicals |
