What is Green Corps?
Green Corps is an Australian Government youth development and environmental training program for young people aged between 17 and 20 years.
Green Corps provides young people with the opportunity to volunteer their commitment to conserve, preserve and restore Australia's natural environment and cultural heritage.
The Australian Government has contracted five service providers to deliver the program nationally from 2006 to 2009. The service providers are responsible for providing 1740 places each year, selecting participants, establishing and supervising projects and providing field support to the Green Corps teams. EnviTE NSW operates Green Corps teams under contract to Greening Australia.
EnviTE NSW has now managed over 40 Green Corps projects on the North Coast of NSW over the past ten years. EnviTE NSW operates Green Corps projects under contract to Greening Australia.
What Does Each Green Corps Project Involve?
Each Green Corps project involves 10 young people and a trained team leader who supervises participants in a range of activities, training and experiences over a 26 week period.
Each project has a major activity that operates for 14 weeks. This major activity is supported by other activities that all have a common theme, strategy or plan.
Each project also has group activities nominated and developed by Green Corps participants. Each team nominates a community project as well that the team members develop and deliver in their local area. These group activities give participants the opportunity to work with the local community and will have an environmental or heritage theme.
