Coffs Harbour - Charlesworth Bay Littoral Rainforest Access and Restoration 18 Jun 2007 to 14 Dec 2007 With this project the Green Corps team are developing an access through the Littoral Rainforest at Charlesworth Bay, Coffs Harbour. This includes the construction of a raised boardwalk, paved pathway and landscaping to reduce the impact of pedestrian tourism. The team will also rehabilitate the coastal rainforest, which involves the propagation of seedlings and the planting out of 400 trees. There is a need for some weed control as well as the judicious management of existing indigenous plants. This exciting project is being conducted in partnership with the Coffs Harbour City Council and local Landcare groups. The team will plan and conduct field days to more actively involve and inform the local community of their efforts and to promote more responsible interaction with the sensitive coastal environment.
Lismore - Enhancing urban platypus habitat and protecting Endangered Ecological Communities (EEC) 26 Feb 2007 to 24 Aug 2007
Participants will help stop the decline in habitat value of Tucki Tucki Creek due to sedimentation, nitrification and invasion of aquatic weeds caused by increasing urban stormwater run-off in the catchment. The team will control the infestation of environmental weeds in the Endangered Ecological Community "Lowland Rainforest on Floodplain" at both Currie Park and Ruthven. They will also help raise the awareness of the local public regarding invasive weeds and the importance of native vegetation to habitat health and build suitable roosting and nesting sites for microbats.
