Participant Information

Participants generally work 2 days a week over six months. Work experience placements are made with a range of community organisations involved in the arts, media, health, education and the environment.
  • If you're aged 18-20, your minimum hours will be 24 each fortnight
  • If you're aged 21-39, your minimum hours will be 30 each fortnight
  • If you're aged 40 or over, your minimum hours will be 12 each fortnight

Team placements involve environmental project work, assisting Landcare, Dunecare and other groups with Revegetation, bush regeneration, enhancement of community facilities, construction of walking tracks, landscaping, nursery and horticultural activities.

Local Councils, community groups, Landcare organisations and EnviTE sponsor Work for the Dole project teams.

EnviTE employs project supervisors, provides transport and tools and manages teams in partnership with sponsors. Sponsors are an important part of the program, often providing materials, plans, expertise and encouragement.

Teams undertake work experience in general construction, landscaping, natural resource management and nursery operations.  Supervisors of teams have relevant qualifications and experience in all areas of project work.

Project teams are based in Bellingen, Coffs Harbour , Woolgoolga, Grafton, Maclean, Lismore, Goonellabah, Casino, Evans Head, Ballina and Mullumbimby.

A diversity of host organisations over a wide geographic area contributes to the success of Community Work and Brokered activities.  Individual placements are made with not for profit organisations from Burringbar in the north to Urunga in the south and west to Drake, Cangai and Dundurrabin.

Participants are exposed to a range of working environments and gain experience in administration, aged and child care, animal care, public education, kitchen work and food preparation, historical archiving, grounds maintenance, general construction, hospitality, environmental restoration, arts, theatre, health care, event management, emergency services, library and tourist services, schools, customer service, information technology, desk top publishing and retail services.

Participants can receive up to $800 worth of Training Credits which can be used for accredited or non accredited training courses.

EnviTE have placed over 6000 participants into Work for the Dole activities over the last 10 years and has formed partnerships with over 400 not-for-profit organisations during this period.
