    Project Description

Envite Environment bush regeneration contractors work to restore ecosystems on sites in the Gold Coast region. This includes systematic weed control work is taking place across 19 hectares of dunes from Surfers Paradise to Mermaid Beach. Managing vegetation on the dune system is important to protect sand from erosion and to provide habitat for coastal fauna.

These frontal dunes areas contain a variety of native vegetation including Spinifex (Spinifex sericeus), Beach Bean (Canavalia rosea), Goat’s Foot (Ipomoea pes-caprae), Yellow Beach Bean (Vigna marina) and Coastal Pigface (Carpobrotus glaucescens) with sparsely scattered trees and shrubs, mostly Horsetail Sheoak (Casuarina equisetifolia subsp. incana), and Pandanus (Pandanus tectorius). Along with the weed control the work teams are keeping vegetation from encroaching on beach access as well as removing any rubbish found on the site.
