Bush regenerators are working with the Friends of Wilson Nature Reserve Landcare to systematically restore rainforest and sclerophyll forest over 27ha at Wilson Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Lismore. The Reserve provides habitat for 8 threatened flora species and 9 threatened fauna species including the Koala.  Weeds, including Madeira Vine, Asparagus Fern, Large-leaved Privet and Lantana, have been degrading threatened species habitat and Lowland Rainforest Endangered Ecological Community. Works will facilitate regeneration of native ecosystems in place of weeds and improve the condition of habitat for threatened species.

Field days and workshops showcase restoration works and develop community awareness and capacity in ecological restoration.

Restoration and rehabilitation of ecosystems at Wilson Nature Reserve will improve habitat for eight threatened flora species (Northern Clematis, Thorny Pea, Ball Nut, southern Ochrosia, Spiny Gardenia, Tinospora Vine, Arrow-head Vine) and nine threatened fauna species (Little Bentwing-bat, Shorter Rainforest Ground-beetle, Shorter Rainforest Ground-beetle, Koala, Marbled Frogmouth, Grey-headed Flying-fox, Wompoo Fruit Dove, Rose-crowned Fruit Dove).

Degradation of habitat by invasive weeds is a major threat. Systematic control of invasive weeds at Wilson Nature Reserve is improving the health and condition of threatened species habitat.

Friends of Wilson Nature Reserve Landcare is working to restore native vegetation and wildlife habitat. The project is assisting volunteers develop further knowledge and skills in ecological restoration through field days and workshops and provision of opportunities for volunteers to work alongside professional bush regenerators.

Improving the condition of ecosystems also assists in building resilience to climate change impacts.
